About M=Mayor Steven Woodside:
Steven Woodside was elected in November 2024 to his first four-year term on the City Council. He currently serves as Mayor. His prior service to the City of Sausalito includes membership on the Landslide Task Force and the Peer Working Group that has drafted Objective Design Development Standards (ODDS).
Steven has retired from almost 50 years as a municipal lawyer. He served as County Counsel for the counties of Marin, Sonoma and Santa Clara, helping Bay Area local governments navigate their most challenging legal issues–housing, land use, public finance, public safety, environmental protection, disaster relief, transportation, infrastructure, historic preservation, open space, equal opportunity employment, economic development, pension reform, and much more.
Steven successfully represented local governments in court, including the US Supreme Court. He has advocated before Congress, the California Legislature, and the Executive branches of Federal and State Government.
Throughout his adult life, he has volunteered with charitable educational non-profit organizations, most recently Call of the Sea, builders of brigantine Matthew Turner in Sausalito. He currently serves as Chair of the Board at Call of the Sea and volunteered as its Executive Director during the Covid Pandemic.
Steven is a 4th generation Bay Area resident. He attended public schools in the South Bay, named a Regents Scholar as an undergraduate at UC Davis, awarded a BA degree from UC Santa Cruz, and JD degree from UC Berkeley (formerly “Boalt Hall”, now “Berkeley Law”.) He taught administrative law at Santa Clara University School of Law.
Steven and his artist wife, Lucinda Eubanks, can be seen walking along the Sausalito waterfront, hiking in the Headlands, and swimming, kayaking, or sailing on the Bay. Steven loves teaching young people, including his six grandchildren, about the ocean and maritime heritage.
