    Caring for Our Aging Population

    Sausalito Village (SV)

Remember the saying “it takes a village?” about the importance of community in providing a caring and supportive environment to raise children? Sausalito Village is that kind of “village” but for adults. No bricks and mortar just friends helping friends. Over 200 members and 70 volunteers come together to ensure a supportive environment for those getting on in years.
Lectures/classes/groups/volunteer transportation/advocacy/memberreferred business lists are all part of the membership. Membership is open to all residents of Sausalito and the Floating Homes and a certain number of fee waiver memberships are available.

    SV and Age Friendly Sausalito

Recognizing the need to change the conversation about aging (in a County that is the fastest aging in the State), Sausalito Village Board Members encouraged the development of the City’s Age Friendly Task Force. In February 2014, Sausalito became the first member of the World Health Organization’s Age Friendly Cities in Marin County and third in the State. Assessing the age friendliness of the City via a survey mailed to all residents 55 and older (50% response  rate!) provided important information about the greatest needs for older residents in Sausalito transportation around town ranked at the top.

SV and CARSS  (Call A Ride for Sausalito Seniors)

The City’s Age Friendly Sausalito Task Force developed CARSS, received seed funding from Marin Transit and launched FREE rides to all residents 60 and older to anywhere in Sausalito, the Floating Homes and CVS. Rides are provided by vetted and trained volunteer drivers who use their own cars. Sausalito Village manages the program for the City. A simple yet remarkable program that builds community between the Drivers and Riders and most importantly keeps our older residents involved in our town by shopping, eating and visiting locally!
