NEW SAUSALITO RESTAURANTS OFFER FLAVORFUL DINING OPTIONS
In keeping with our ongoing campaign to get Sausalito residents to “Think Local, Buy Local, Stay Local” it’s important that we patronize our local restaurants. The swarms of summer visitors to town aren’t enough to sustain these eateries year round. They need your support. In return, they generate huge tax revenues for the city that fuel our infrastructure – our parks and recreation programs, police and fire protection, and projects such as the new public restrooms downtown.
While Sausalito has always offered a wide range of tempting culinary options whether it’s the highly lauded Sushi Ran on Caledonia Street, nearby Cibo Café, the waterfront Spinnaker, Poggio’s in the center of town or Le Garage at the Schoonmaker Marina, in the last few months the dining options have expanded dramatically. In the last year, 7 new restaurants have opened in Sausalito and I’m guessing you haven’t sampled them all. You should. Do your palate a favor and consider it a community service at the same time!
Whether you’re looking for casual, outdoor dining or a more intimate ambiance you’ll find new foods and flavors from around the world at these seven new eateries.
Aurora – Formerly Caccuicco, this Italian trattoria offers the same wonderful ambiance, great pizza, pasta and outdoor seating. A neighborhood gem in the south end of town. 300 Valley Street – 330.8930
Bar Bocce – Brought to you by the same Real Restaurant team of Buckeye, Picco, and Fog City Diner fame. Terrific wood-fired pizzas, homemade soups, salads and an outdoor patio for dining (with heat lamps!)…and bocce ball courts of course. 1250 Bridgeway – 331.0555
Harbor View –The former Cat & the Fiddle site with waterfront views of the Sausalito Yacht Harbor offering Italian-inspired seafood, poultry and pastas. 303 Johnson Street – PH: 332.1861
La Hacienda – Mexican fare and a full bar offering great margaritas. South of the border décor. Ole! 2693 Bridgeway – PH: 332.1677
Pizzeria Rossetti – Delicious thin-crust Italian pizza, specialty antipasti, salads and fresh pastas. 45 Caledonia Street – PH: 887.9526
Plate Shop -- Very avant garde menu. Local, organic cuisine that is carefully handcrafted with vegetables plucked from their own gardens behind the restaurant! Very hip ambiance for the “hood”. Great bar and specialty cocktails. 39 Caledonia Street – PH: 887-9047
Taste of Himalayas – Fabulous Nepali cuisine with Tibetan and Indian fusion – great curries, fresh wild salmon—all served in a comfortable, inviting, ethnic interior. 2633 Bridgeway – PH: 331.1335.
Late Night Ferry Service Launched
Through October, Blue & Gold Fleet will be offering late-night ferry service on Friday evenings. Leaving Sausalito at 9:40 PM and arriving at the Ferry Building at 10:05 PM and at Pier 41 (Fisherman’s Wharf) at 10:20 PM. If this pilot program is a success, the late night service may be expanded.
The last ferryboat to San Francisco leaves at 8 PM the rest of the weekdays and even earlier on weekends (6:30 PM) which makes it more difficult for visitors using public transport to stay for dinner and little incentive for merchants to stay open late. Expanded, late-night ferry service should give Sausalito’s economy a bit of a boost. This new service is a tremendous opportunity for our local restaurants and merchants, so let’s encourage passenger ridership for this summer service.
With over 35 restaurants walking distance from the ferryboat landing and the new, late-night ferry schedule, friends from San Francisco can now meet you here to savor some of Sausalito’s great cuisines and let someone else do the driving. Make your reservations now and bon appetit!
